Iles Lane Cashmere

The design for this residential garden in Christchurch’s Port Hills had to resolve a 4m level change between the street and the front door of the house. Carl designed steps which linked to an elevated walkway as a practical solution. Tree ferns were planted to soften the walkway and provide vertical scale, with the added effect of fronds being in full view as one walks past. Other elements of the design included native plantings and a water feature. The timber walkway has over time  weathered to a natural grey and blends in well with its surroundings.
