Snells Beach
In 2024 Carl was engaged to design a low-maintenance and visually stimulating garden for a retired couple with gardening experience in Snells Beach, Auckland.
A design process (in which the clients had considerable input) produced a concept with strong linear elements (paving/ louvered courtyard/ driveway) balanced by a serpentine path and soft low-maintenance planting (grasses/ succulents/ rushes).
What makes this garden particularly interesting is a birds-eye view from the balcony where architectural forms of path and paving stand out when viewed from above
It is also a calming garden to be in with all it’s earthy tones and minimal-type form.
Our experience with Carl Pickens of Carl Pickens Landscapes was exemplary from start to finish.
After interviewing various landscape design professionals, we were most impressed by Carls stunning works on his website which displayed transformational design skills made of various plots. We felt we had a particularly difficult task ahead due to the shape and large amount of concrete which covered the entire front section of the property.
Carl and his assistant Sarah asked pertinent questions which, combined with our vision of having an elegant low maintenance garden and their knowledge, provided us with the perfect plan which was then executed by Rochford Landscapes. With their excellent professional guidance the entire project far exceeded our expectations. They come highly recommended.
